TALL FOUNTS FROM CREO ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS
Tall founts (pronounced fonts), sometimes known as ‘Aitken’ founts, due the popularity of the founts manufactured by Aitken of Edinburgh, and originally as counter fountains. They have been in decline over the years and replaced with hand pumps for dispensing cask beer. The tall fount is the original method in Scotland for cask beer dispense, dating back to 1870! The main difference being the beer is being pulled up from the cellar with a hand pump and using a tall fount the beer is being pushed up by the means of air pressure. They are well known for dispensing beer with a thick creamy head. There were various manufacturers over the years, Allan & Bogle, Laidlaw, Gaskell & Chambers, Gillanders, Mackie & Carnegie, Bowman & Webster, Reid and of course Aitken of Edinburgh. A few founts from the above manufacturers can still be found. In particular Gaskell and Chambers ‘Dalex’ units which predate the Aitken fount by 20 years.

Unfortunately, a lot of the founts have been removed over the years due to operational issues with leaking. As the design dates back to the turn of the century, the sealing surface inside the tap is brass to brass, if these surfaces are not in perfect condition the connection will leak.
At CREO Engineering Solutions we have produced a new design of the fount, keeping the same iconic style externally, with modern sealing methods internally.
The fount can either be supplied as a complete new unit, or the tap can be retrofitted to the original fount body as produced by Aitken of Edinburgh.
